Karate Kid, Approaching 26 Weeks

We had another Doctor’s appointment on Friday. The waiting room wowed us once again with amazing television programming while we waited. Last time, it was I Didn’t Know I was Pregnant. This time, we tried our best to ignore episodes of The Duggars’19 Kids and Counting.

This appointment was mainly to check my system to see if I have gestational diabetes. I haven’t shown any signs so far, but they test everyone for it these days, what with the typical American diet. I peed in a cup and had my blood pressure taken, as per usual. Then I downed a gross beverage called GLUCOCRUSH, which wasn’t as terrible as I was expecting. I guess it used to be more syrupy. Modern versions are more like a Koolaid/Gatorade hybrid with extra sugar added. Not exactly appealing on an empty stomach, or at any time, really, but I gulped it down.

Then we met with the doctor and talked about our “birth plan.” Okay, the general idea of a “birth plan” is a bit over-mommy-mom for me, but I have been convinced that it’s a good idea to have all of our preferences down in writing. Don’t cut me, don’t rush me, let me move around, and gimmie that baby as soon as it comes out. Actually, I could just put that on a piece of paper in bold type:

Birthing Preferences: Don’t cut me, don’t rush me, let me move around, and gimmie that baby as soon as it comes out.

P.S. I don’t know how I feel about that whole epidural thing, but I’m sure I’ll let you know, probably in a rather loud and demanding tone. Sorry.

Birth Plan, complete!

Also during doctor time, at her request, I explained that I’m still experiencing acid reflux and leaky boobs, and that I feel weird things that I don’t know how to describe. She lubed up my moon belly to listen to the heartbeat. It’s between 140-150 beats per minute, by the way. Print Nugget doesn’t particularly like to be touched and poked, so it kicked the doctor during the reading, which made her jump and laugh.

In fact, starting this past week (and somewhat the week before,) Print Nugget has become a regular Karate Kid. I can sometimes see my belly jump when it kicks. Blake’s touch has a calming affect. The little jerk already likes dad better. Figures. As I write this, Print Nugget is dancing to Al Green on my Pandora. So it’s got that going for it.

After doctor time, we hung out in the waiting room and ignored Say Yes to the Dress until it was time to get my blood taken. They’re going to test for diabetes, and run some general blood work, as well. No news is good news, the doctor said, and I haven’t heard anything yet.

Classes start tomorrow, so wish me luck with that! I’ll soon be careening into 3rd Trimester as I dive into my first semester at my new school.

  1. Well, I guess the baby can be when renamed; “the artist formerly known as print” . Glad to know things are going well. I hope your classes are not too hard with carrying around a kicker. If it is not karate, maybe you are already a soccer mom.
