Car Show, Giant Pork Tenderloins and Other Adventures in Cedar Falls

Giant Pork Tenderloin

Blake and I have been visiting in Cedar Falls about a week now. Looking through our photos (and at our tummies,) it looks like we’ve been spending most of that time eating!! We’ve also been visiting with friends and family, embroidering screen printed T shirts to sell and enjoying the local Sturgis Falls festivities including fair food, live music and even a car show.

Giant Tenderloins

Giant Pork Tenderloins from Newton’s Cafe in Waterloo, Iowa! They give you a normal sized bun with the tenderloin so that you can make a sandwich with part of it. Even if you split it between two or three people, there are still leftovers! We had ours for breakfast the next morning along with some cauliflower. It was delicious! Blake also ordered some Parmesan fries.

Delicious Spinach Salad

Hopefully this salad balanced out some of that tenderloin…. It was quite delicious, spinach-based with nuts and blue cheese as well as a few blackberries for garnish.

Below are a couple of pics from an old graveyard we explored in Waterloo, Iowa while waiting to meet family at Steamboat Gardens for Tugboat Tuesday, which means 99 cent pork tenderloin sandwiches! Pork is always cheap and delicious in Iowa. When in Iowa, we usually meet up with Blake’s mom, brother Brandon and Grandmother Shirley at Steamboat Gardens: a family tradition. They have different specials every day of the week that make the visit worth it! Plus, if it’s your birthday, you get a very special song from the owner. No matter what your age, you’re always turning 21. Who wouldn’t love that?

Carnies

I love to take sneaky photos of carnies and their wares.

Carnival for Sturgis Falls

Cedar Falls' Sturgis Parade

The parade for Sturgis Falls was pretty nice. It included a lot of local boyscout troops and gymnastics schools kartwheeling and flipping down the road. There was also music, candy and lots of Mardi Gras Beads, since Sturgis Falls is Mardi Gras themed this year. The beads are following us!!

Rudy’s in Waterloo! We always try to eat here with Blake’s brother Brandon whenever we are in town. Really great food with a whole caddy of hot sauces to experiment with!

And, finally, CAR SHOW! I’m not much of a car fanatic, but I still enjoy looking at superior design and decorative detailing including slick paint jobs and upholstery. I took lots of photos of my favorites. Most of these images end up being obscured self-portraits due to the high level of shine on every vehicle! Practically the entire field had a olfactory haze of armor-all.
